Standardization and Regulation of Collection Bags in Medical Waste Management
I. Material Standards
1. Prohibited Materials: In accordance with relevant standards and regulations, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic must not be used as a raw material for medical waste collection bags, as this material may generate harmful substances during processing, posing risks to the environment and human health.
2. Recommended Materials: The use of materials compliant with national regulations for medical waste packaging bags—such as polyethylene (PE)—is recommended. These materials should possess adequate tensile strength and abrasion resistance to effectively prevent the leakage of medical waste and environmental contamination.

II. Size and Capacity Standards
1. Volume and Shape: Medical waste collection bags generally have a volume of 0.1 cubic meters; their size and shape should be appropriate to facilitate handling and fit within designated transfer containers. This ensures the bag's capacity meets requirements while streamlining subsequent processing and transportation.
2. Thickness Requirements: Specific thickness requirements apply based on the raw materials used. For instance, when linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) or a blend of low-density polyethylene and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE+LDPE) is used, the minimum nominal thickness must be 150 μm; when medium-density or high-density polyethylene (MDPE, HDPE) is used, the minimum nominal thickness must be 80 μm.
III. Sealing Performance Standards
1. Sealing Requirements: Medical waste collection bags must exhibit excellent sealing performance to ensure that leakage, rupture, or perforation does not occur under normal conditions of use. This is a critical measure for preventing the escape of medical waste and environmental contamination.
2. Sealing Performance Testing: During production, collection bags must undergo sealing performance tests to verify compliance with relevant national standards. Testing methods may include pressure tests, watertightness tests, and others.
IV. Labeling and Instructions for Use
1. Labeling Requirements: Medical waste collection bags must bear clearly printed labels and instructions for use, covering details such as the bag's intended purpose, precautions, and usage methods. These labels assist users in correctly utilizing the bags and ensure the safe disposal of medical waste. In particular, collection bags containing infectious waste must be clearly labeled with the words "Infectious Waste" and bear the medical waste warning symbol to alert relevant personnel to the need for appropriate protective measures and handling procedures.
2. Instructions for Use: The instructions should detail the correct method for using the collection bags, important precautions, and procedures for disposal after use. This helps users better understand and comply with relevant regulations, ensuring the safe disposal of medical waste.
